Meatsmith Co-op
A Producer- and Worker-Owned Cooperative
Happy Holidays!
What a wild ride this year has been! We are still on the hunt for an acceptable facility, but have been bolstered by the kindness and generosity of the surrounding community and members, and feel certain there is one in our near future. We hope you'll check out our end-of-year update for details on our journey. Best wishes to all for a happy, healthy, and joyous New Year!
Annual Meeting
On Sunday, September 25, 2022 the first annual meeting of Meatsmith Co-op happened at Blanchardville's McKellar Park along the Pecatonica River. The potluck gathering was a great opportunity to meet with members and potential members to learn more about the needs of the community and how Meatsmith is working to fulfill them. If you are interested in reading our minutes from this gathering, you can find them here.
At this meeting we reviewed and passed into law our bylaws and voted on the new members of our board.
You can find more information about becoming a member on our Membership Page.
Welcome to Meatsmith Co-op
Meatsmith Co-op is a newly formed organization serving Lafayette, Green, Iowa, Dane, Grant, and Rock Counties which aims to serve both farmers, butchers, and consumers, providing a close and transparent connection through the processing of whole carcass beef, pork, lamb, and goats.
We are in the process of locating a building to become a nose-to-tail meat processing facility with future plans to operate a state-inspected mobile slaughter unit (MSU) to harvest animals exclusively on local farms. As a co-op, our goal is to provide services that make it easier to link farmers and consumers and keep our community thriving and connected.
After many years and much research, it is evident that access to timely and affordable meat harvest and processing is a real need in our community. Please consider helping us reach our goal of $20,000 to make this happen. This money will go toward renovation, equipment and start-up costs to pay employees.

Livestock Producer Membership is Now Available!
We are inviting small- and medium-scale producers of cattle, hogs, sheep and goats in southern Wisconsin to sign up to become members for a one-time fee of $500. When you become a member, you become an owner of the cooperative, giving you access to preferential scheduling, lower processing fees and profit sharing, as well as a voice in developing cooperative policies and choosing its leadership.
